I feel I might be a little behind the times with this post, but I recently was introduced to Goji Berries by my aunt, and while researching them was amazed at their massive health benefits. Today I’m going to share with you a few benefits of having these gorgeous red berries in your life 🙂
High Nutrient Levels
We all know how important antioxidants are for a healthy immune system and Goji Berries are packed with them! Not only that but 1 ounce, will provide you with more beta-carotene than carrots and more iron than spinach. They will also provide you with no less than 18 different amino acids and 20 other trace minerals like zinc and riboflavin, making them a pretty important addition to your diet.
Protection Against UV Damage
In a study published in 2010 in “Photochemical and Photobiological Sciences,” researchers believe that the high levels of antioxidants fond in Goji Berry Juice are responsible for preventing the oxidative damage that normally leads to sunburn after being exposed to UV light. This means that if they are incorporated into your daily diet on the days you may forget to apply sun cream, your body will still have a chance of blocking out some of the horrible UV Rays 🙂
Helps Preserve Eyesight
Zeaxanthin is an antioxidant present in Goji Berries that helps preserve eyesight. This antioxidant protects the eye from free radicals that may cause loss of eyesight, cataracts, and other eye-related diseases.
Goji Berries have a very low GI even lower than the common Apple, Orange and Banana, which means that even when dried their sugar content is still low. The berries are also a good source of chromium, a mineral that aids in blood sugar control. Chromium may also help to preserve lean muscle mass during weight loss. Muscle burns more calories than fat, promoting a more efficient metabolism, which makes it easier to prevent weight gain.
There are many more benefits to eating this amazing superfruit which make it a excellent choice to incorporate into your daily diet especially when it comes to adding toppings to a smoothie bowl or homemade granola or even just on their own, having this little sweet and sour berry in your life will make it much better and healthier 😀
