Christmas Cooking Tips

Happy Blogmas Day 20  🙂

The big day is almost upon us 😀 Now, I’ve not been ever asked to cook Christmas Dinner, but I do know that someday soon I will be and I know I’ll need all the tips I can get. Today I thought I’d share with you a few that I’ve gathered over the years, both from research and from my own Mum 🙂

Preparation is key:

When I asked my Mum what’s the best tip, this is what she said ‘start preparing days in advance.’  I’ve seen more than a few dinners where preparation was not done and let’s just say we were waiting hours for a bite to eat! Have all your vegetables chopped and in water the night before, if you are planning on having a trifle you can make that up to 2 nights before and pie fillings can be made weeks in advance 🙂

Do not stuff the bird’s cavity:

Many people probably will be shocked to hear this, but stuffing the cavity of whichever bird you have will stop heat from circulating and actually adds to the cooking time. If like me you love stuffing, do not despair, I normally stuff a little inside the neck area and the rest can be baked separately and tastes just as good 😀

Allow enough time:

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I cook, things don’t always go to plan and I end up spending precious time fixing them. If you are on a time scale this is not good, so instead factor in time for mistakes, I’d say an extra hour. It really can make all the difference 🙂

Set the table the night before:

Before you go to bed on Christmas Eve, set the dinner/breakfast table. Growing up my mum always did this and it just added to the magic in the morning 🙂

Have you any tips for cooking on Christmas Day? I’d love to hear them or what you think of mine 🙂

All The Best

CJ 🙂
